The first European date on ‘The River Tour 2016’ will be in Barcelona. The Boss will visit the Catalan capital on the 14th of May to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the release of his album ‘The River’ with a concert at Camp Nou. ‘The River Tour 2016’ started in Pittsburgh on the 16th of January and The Boss performed the whole album, one of his most iconic works. Together with the E Street Band, Springsteen will offer two other shows in Spain; one in San Sebastian and the other in Madrid. Tickets for the Barcelona show will go on sale on the 1st of March, with prices ranging from 80 euros to 115 euros for reserved seats. The last time The Boss visited Barcelona was in 2012, when he offered a double show during ‘The Wrecking ball’ tour.
Six MEPs from the Committee on Petitions visited the Ebro Delta, in Catalonia’s southern region of Tarragona, to meet the several petitioners who have claimed that Spain’s new National Water Plan (NWP) may infringe the EU Water Framework Directive. Environmentalists say one of Europe's most important wetland areas is under threat as Spain’s new Plan aims to reduce the river’s flow to 3,000 cubic hectometres per year and add 465,000 new hectares of irrigated lands to an already existing one million hectares, which will also contribute to cutting the sediment level dramatically. Besides the risk to the delta’s survival, the Platform for the Defence of the Ebro Delta (PDE) are worried that ultimately these waters could be transferred to other, drier regions of Spain. The visit of the EU delegation comes after 50,000 demonstrators took to the streets of Amposta in Catalonia on Sunday to protest against the plans.
Barça have won the Club World Cup in Japan after beating River Plate 3-0. After missing the semi-final through injury, Messi returned to action with a bang, scoring the first goal and playing a part in the other two. Luis Suárez scored the other two and added them to three that he notched in the semi-final. That made Suárez by far the top scorer in the competition, and also made him the natural choice to collect the MVP award. The victory over River Plate was the third Club World Cup title for FC Barcelona which makes Barça the only club to have won the FIFA Club World Cup three times. The win in Yokohama also represents the fifth trophy for the team this year, after also winning the Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League and European Super Cup, matching the haul of 2011.
