About us
Catalan News is the English-language media outlet of the Agència Catalana de Notícies (ACN), a public news agency in Catalonia. Open to everyone and subscription-free, it was launched in the summer of 2017 after revamping the old Catalan News Agency (CNA) English-language site, which had been running since 2010.
Catalan News' target audience includes in equal measure both English speakers anywhere in the world who are interested in Catalonia's current affairs, as well as internationals in Catalonia who want to be informed about where they live but struggle with Catalan or Spanish.
The leading media outlet for Catalonia's internationals
Catalan News reports on the main news in Catalonia in English. Taking pride in its role as a public service, Catalan News focuses on stories that directly affect its target audience. Reporting locally from Barcelona and across Catalonia, Catalan News provides just enough context to make sure internationals understand everything that is happening here.
Check out Catalan News not only for articles, but also videos, photos, and a daily news clip summarizing the most important stories in 100 seconds. It also has a weekly podcast, Filling the Sink, with discussions, interviews, and features on everything from food to football, culture to current affairs, or global debates to local traditions.
Catalan News has, over the years, become the leading media outlet for internationals interested in Catalonia, especially during key moments such as at the peak of the independence crisis or the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Residents, tourists, diplomats, politicians, journalists, academics, business people, and investors are among its faithful audience, and it has been cited by top global media outlets including Financial Times, Politico, The Guardian, BBC, The New York Times or CBC.
