The Catalan capital holds an exposition of more than 300 antiquity pieces from the Arabian civilisation. This is the first time that some of these treasures can be seen abroad, so the show is a great opportunity for archaeology lovers

The Cuban pianist presented his new album ‘Chucho’s Steps’ at his performance during the Barcelona International Jazz Festival. He was accompanied by ‘The Afro-Cuban Messengers’.

The UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage declared the Catalan tradition of human castle building, or ‘castells’, as an element of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition was also awarded to the Mallorcan ‘Sibil·la’ chant, the traditional dance Flamenco and the Mediterranean Diet.

Human towers are one of the most unique traditions in Catalonia. This week at the UNESCO meeting in Nairobi (Kenya), "castells" may join the prestigious list of world heritage cultural assets.

The famous English rock band Pulp is reuniting after a decade long hiatus to play Barcelona’s Primavera Sound.

The opera directed by Michael Boder and Olivier Py opens today at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu. It was composed by Alban Berg, although his death prevented him from finishing it; Pierre Boulez did so. Py described the opera as a “joyous apocalypse”.

The famous saxophonist Sony Rollins will kick off the 42nd edition of the Barcelona Jazz Festival tomorrow. The musician is perfoming at the Auditori de Barcelona as part of his 80th Birthday tour.

The exhibition ‘Artist’s Jewels’ brings together 350 pieces from renowned artists such as Pau Gargallo, Salvador Dalí and Alexander Calder. The exhibition show the jewels designed by great artists of the early 20th century. It can be seen in National Art Museum of Catalonia, in Barcelona, until the 13th February.

Barcelona is hosting the ‘Big Draw’ initiative for the first time this year. The project began in London 10 years ago with the objective of “using drawing to connect visitors with museum and gallery collections, urban and rural spaces – and the wider community – in new and enjoyable ways”.

The pop-rock music festival will use one of its previous locations, the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona’s Montjuïc hill. The most talked about performances from the first round of confirmed acts are Ariel Pink, the Fiery Furnaces, Broadcast and Half Japanese.

The Catalan post-hardcore band Standstill is presenting their new album ‘Adelante Bonaparte’ with their new show ‘Rooom’ at Barcelona’s L’Auditori.

‘El Molino’, Barcelona’s Moulin Rouge, reopened its doors last night after a 13-year closure, a change of ownership and a complete renovation. On its first night, the theatre offered a spectacle typical of Paral·lel Avenue, the Catalan Broadway. The re-opening has created great expectations.

New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is currently hosting an exhibition that juxtaposes Catalan artist Joan Miró’s work with Dutch Golden Era paintings that he was inspired by.

A new exhibition is presenting a 50-year retrospective of industrial design pieces that were awarded with the Delta Prize, from the ADI-FAD Association. The show attempts to place the designs in their historical, political and cultural context.
