It has been announced that the works of satirical English author, Tom Sharpe, will remain in Catalonia, following the writer’s last will. In addition, his former doctor and secretary Montserrat Verdaguer has been charged with the creation of a foundation. In his will, Sharpe – famous for writing the ‘Wilt’ series – left all manuscripts, personal correspondence, photographs and an unfinished 30,000 word autobiography to Verdaguer. The doctor stated how she “would like the foundation to be in Palafrugell”, the Costa Brava town where Sharpe spent the final years of his life. With the information she has received, Verdaguer will begin writing an extensive biography. The writer died on the 6th of June at the age of 85 after having lived in the Catalan seaside village of Llafranc (in Palafrugell) since 1995.
The family of Montserrat Serra has confirmed to CNA the release of the two aid workers. The Catalan Montserrat Serra and Blanca Thiebaut, from Madrid, were working for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and they were captured in the Ifo2 refugee camp of Dadaab in Kenya on the 13th of October 2011. MSF has ensured the two workers are “in good health conditions and they are waiting to join their loved ones as soon as possible”. An MSF team is already assisting the two aid workers. It is believed that immediately after the capture Serra and Thiebault were moved to Somalia, where they have been kept prisoners since. During the 645-day ordeal, silence and caution has been imposed by the negotiators.

The 13th edition of the Festival de Cap Roig will run from the 20th of July until the 16th of August, and it is one of the main milestones of Catalonia’s cultural landscape during the summertime. The Catalan bands Manel, Gossos, Antònia Font and Blaumut will play at the festival that will be kicked off with a concert by Elton John, making the only stop in Spain of his 'Rocket Man - Greatest Hits Live' tour. Other important artists are Katie Melua, Fito & Fitipaldis, Vicente Amigo, Melendi, Malú, Rosario and Ainhoa Arteta.
