Cap Roig festival celebrates 20 years with constellation of music stars
The Lumineers, Gilberto Gil, Estopa, Julio Iglesias, Manel, and Lionel Richie among the acts at this summer's Costa Brava music fest
The Lumineers, Gilberto Gil, Estopa, Julio Iglesias, Manel, Lionel Richie, and Herbie Hancock are just a few of the big names from home and abroad that will grace the stage at this summer's Cap Roig music festival.
The program for the festival held every year in the Gardens of Cap Roig, in the Costa Brava town of Calella de Palafrugell, was announced on Friday, with the likes of Yann Tiersen, Mika, David Bisbal, and Aitana also booked to perform.
The 20th edition of the festival will kick off on July 10 with a concert by rock outfit The Lumineers, with Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias set to bring it to a close on August 21 and 22. In all, Cap Roig will offer 26 nights of top-drawer music acts.
A week after The Lumineers get things going, July 17 will see pianist Yann Tiersen perform, followed by singer-songwriter Lionel Richie on July 24. Lebanese-English artist Mika is on August 1, followed by Gilberto Gil and Herbie Hancock on the next two nights.
The international line up then continues with Juan Diego Flórez (August 5), Andrea Bocelli (August 8) and Travis (August 17), while Spanish artists Pablo López and David Bisbal will perform on July 18 and August 12.
Strong Catalan line-up, but only one woman
There will also be a strong Catalan line-up in the festival, with music groups Manel performing on July 11, Amics de les Arts on stage on July 26, and Estopa on August 11, with singer Aitana, the only woman on the billing, in concert on August 18.
Completing the festival's program will be Supertramp's Roger Hodgson returning on July 25, Maestro performing on July 31, Ara Malikian on August 4, Blaumut on August 10, Morat on August 16, and Antonio José on August 20.
Running alongside the 20th anniversary edition of the festival will be Cap Roig Mini, which will offer acts for all the family, including musical act Pot Petit on August 9, and illusionist Mag Lari on August 15.
Tickets for the festival will go on sale on March 2 at 10 am on the event's website, at an average price of 49 euros (last year the price was 52 euros), although tickets are more expensive to see Andrea Bocelli, Julio Iglesias, and Lionel Richie.
