Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, the Leo Messi Foundation, the FC Barcelona Foundation and the IESE business school have joined forces to launch a campaign to get companies and the general public to help finance the new SJD Pediatric Cancer Center that is being planned for the city of Barcelona. The hospital, which is set to be Europe’s largest dedicated to infantile cancer and the third-biggest worldwide, will cost 30 MEUR. Once functioning, the centre could care for around 400 patients within its 5,137m² installation, which will be located next to Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. If the deadlines are met, the construction of the new centre will start in the second half of 2017 and be ready by 2019. The facility will allow the increase of the recovery rate for infantile cancer, which is currently around 80%, help develop new drugs and reduce the side effects of treatments used. 

FC Barcelona became the first team to leave the Sánchez Pizjuán with points as goals courtesy of Leo Messi and Luis Suárez after Vitolo’s opener gave the Catalans a precious win. The blaugranes came from behind to earn a 2-1 win at Sevilla on Sunday in a breathless encounter at the ever-intense Sánchez Pizjuán stadium. A sweet victory for Luis Enrique on Wednesday night, soundly defeating his friend and former teammate, Pep Guardiola, 4–0, in the third Group C game for FC Barcelona and Manchester City. Lionel Messi, of course, was the star of the show, scoring thrice to leave not just his former manager on the losing end but his leaving his current manager almost lost for words. “He was decisive,” Luis Enrique said after the game. “He was involved in all the game’s key moments.” Guardiola was handily defeated at Camp Nou for the second time in two matches since leaving his lifelong club five seasons ago.  Besides Messi’s seventh career Champions League hat-trick, Neymar Jr added a late goal.

FC Barcelona’s Player, Lionel Messi, and his father Jorge have been sentenced to 21 months in prison after Barcelona’s High Court found them guilty of three counts of tax evasion. The court also ordered the football star to pay a fine of more than 2 MEUR and his father to pay 1.5MEUR. However, as the sentence is under two years, it is unlikely that Messi and his father end up in prison, especially ifthere is no prior criminal report. Moreover, the Court’s decision is not definitive and can still be appealed before Spain's Supreme Court. Messi and his father are accused of having moved 4.1m EUR earned from the player’s image rights to tax havens between 2007 and 2009.

This is the same statement that Messi gave in 2013, when he had to testify before the Court for the same case. Spain’s Tax Agency has requested 22 months in prison for each of them for having moved 4.1m EUR earned from publicity contracts to tax havens between 2007 and 2009. On the other hand, the public prosecutor is only accusing Messi’s father.

What had been a ten-point gap between the league's first- and third-place teams now sits at seven.

Barça have won the Club World Cup in Japan after beating River Plate 3-0.  After missing the semi-final through injury, Messi returned to action with a bang, scoring the first goal and playing a part in the other two. Luis Suárez scored the other two and added them to three that he notched in the semi-final. That made Suárez by far the top scorer in the competition, and also made him the natural choice to collect the MVP award. The victory over River Plate was the third Club World Cup title for FC Barcelona which makes Barça the only club to have won the FIFA Club World Cup three times. The win in Yokohama also represents the fifth trophy for the team this year, after also winning the Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League and European Super Cup, matching the haul of 2011. 

With top spot in Group E already guaranteed, Barça were only playing for honour on Wednesday night. FC Barcelona turned in a virtuoso performance on Saturday night at the Santiago Bernabéu, meticulously carving up Real Madrid up and down the pitch to take the first El Clásico of the 2015/16 season by a score of 4-0. Suárez scored a double, while Neymar and Iniesta added one each, as the Catalans moved to six points up at the top of the table. With Real Madrid facing the ignominy of a whipping in front of their home fans, tempers began to flare, and in the 84th minute Isco was shown a straight red card for coming in high with the studs on Neymar and catching the league’s leading goalscorer. Following Barça's 0-4 demolishing of Real Madrid, head coach Luis Enrique appeared in the press room and expressed a high-degree of satisfaction with the way the game went. “I’m satisfied not just for the victory, but for the way we did it”, he stated.

Lionel Messi is expected to be out for the next seven to eight weeks after the this Saturday match at Camp Nou. The four-time Ballon d’Or winner tore a ligament in his left knee and abandoned the pitch after only ten minutes into the game which proved to be a costly victory for Barça. Luis Suárez scored once in each half to make a 2-1 victory with his second goal blasting out of the reach of Las Palmas goalkeeper Javi Varas and into the upper left corner of the net. Jonathon Viera did manage to get a goal back for Las Palmas in the 87th minute, depriving both Barça and goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen of a clean sheet.
