Gyms and sports centers in Barcelona and Figueres open doors again

The exhibition ‘Ramon Llull and the encounter of cultures’ landed on Wednesday at the Espai Catalunya Europa in Brussels and will remain open until January. This itinerant exhibition of the IEMed – the European Institute of the Mediterranean – is part of the events organised in commemoration of the 700^th anniversary of the death of Ramon Llull. The aim of the exhibition is to “explain a little more about what was the world of Ramon Llull” and the role he played “in establishing a dialogue between cultures, civilisations and different religions”, the Executive President of IEMed, Senén Florensa, told the Catalan News Agency. The exhibition has already visited Tarragona, in southern Catalonia; Vic, in central Catalonia; Valencia; and Barcelona. 

The "La Caixa" Foundation has opened Moche Art from Ancient Peru. Gold, Myths and Rituals, an exhibition to be hosted at CaixaForum in Barcelona until the 7th of June. The exhibition includes 200 pieces of pre-Incan Peruvian art from the collection of the Lima-based Larco Museum. According to its curator Ulla Holmquist, the exhibition is conceived "as a route to understanding the Andean worldview through art". The launch of the event coincides with the recent opening of Barcelona's Museum of World Cultures, which hosts a permanent exhibition of more than 500 pieces from the artistic heritage and traditions of Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania. The Museum of World Cultures occupies two Gothic palaces located in the Born neighbourhood, just next to the Picasso Museum.

A journey around the world through art. This is the aim of the new museum in Barcelona, the Museum of World Cultures, which will open its doors in June 2014 in two gothic palaces in front of the Picasso Museum. This new cultural offer in the capital of Catalonia will host art pieces from non-western collections of the Ethnological Museum of Barcelona and private collections, mainly from Folch’s collection which was given to the City Council in 2011. The Museum of World Cultures will display about 700 pieces from Asia, Africa, America and Oceania in permanent and temporary exhibitions. It will also host an educational area. The museum will occupy an area of 2,100 square meters and will cost approximately €5 million.
