Unlucky Barça drop two points at the Ciutat de València (1-1) in a game where they deserved more. The first of the three games FC Barcelona play against Levante over the next ten days ended in a draw. Barça had the chances, particularly in the second half, but an inspired performance from the home keeper Keylor Navas meant the points were shared, with Vyntra opening for Levante early on and Pique equalising soon after. With nine changes form the team that started in the Spanish Cup against Getafe midweek, Barça made it clear from the start who was going to be dominating possession, whilst Levante were happy to sit back and take any chances that came their way.

Neymar out for three to four weeks due to ankle injury

Medical tests conducted on Friday morning have shown that the Brazilian striker has sprained his right ankle. He is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks. The Brazilian was injured fortuitously in the 22nd minute of Thursday night’s Copa del Rey second leg against Getafe, a game Barça won with two goals by Messi. Neymar will therefore miss for certain the next three league games against Levante, Malaga and Valencia, as well as the cup quarter finals also against Levante.

Getafe CF vs FC Barcelona: Through to the Spanish Cup quarter-finals (0-2)

Barça reached the next round of the competition. Messi scored a brace, Xavi featured in his 700th official match for the Catalan team and Neymar picked up an ankle injury. At first it looked as though the player had seriously injured his knee, but Barça’s medical team concluded that he had sprained his right ankle. FC Barcelona played a fairly practical game against Getafe. At the start, the Blaugrana controlled the flow of play through possession, and they managed to threaten Codina’s goal thanks to the Neymar-Messi partnership. In the first half, Getafe also had their chances to score, but Pinto was up to the task of denying the home team.

Getafe CF vs FC Barcelona: One step from Spanish Cup quarter-finals

Barça are close to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. Catalan Marc Bartra set to extend contract with FC Barcelona until 2017

FC Barcelona have agreed to renew Marc Bartra’s contract until June 30, 2017. The defender will sign the new contract in the coming weeks and his buy-out clause will be set at 25 million euros. FC Barcelona dominate FIFPro XI since 2006

Dani Alves, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta and Leo Messi were yesterday named as part of the FIFA/FIFPro World XI 2013 - a team chosen by more than 50,000 players from around the globe. With four players in the side, Barça were once again the club with most representatives. FC Barcelona have been the team providing most players to the World XI for the last 8 years (though they shared that honour with Real Madrid in 2012, when both sides provided 5 players each). Leo Messi finishes second in FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013

The Barça forward, who has won the last four editions of the Ballon d'Or, finished second behind Cristiano Ronaldo and ahead of Frank Ribéry. Messi has finished in the top three for seven consecutive years and has won the last four editions of the prize. After the Gala, Leo Messi said, “it’s a pleasure to be here for a seventh consecutive year. It’s very nice.” When asked about Cristiano Ronaldo, he said: “before anything else I want to congratulate him. He had a great year and his emotion is very understandable.” The 26-year-old Argentinian garnered 24.72% of the vote, while Ronaldo got 27.99% and Ribéry got 23.36%. This is the highest vote percentage of any second-place finish since the FIFA World Player and Ballon d’Or were consolidated into one award.

Tata Martino was spot on when he said Leo Messi had the look of an assassin before Wednesday evening’s match at the Camp Nou against Getafe. It took the Argentinian forward only 30 minutes to score a brace and edge Barça ever closer to the next round of the Copa del Rey. Messi is back after 58 days and is named to face Getafe

The Argentinean is set to play for the first time since he was injured against Betis at the Benito Villamarín Stadium 58 days ago. He has been named in the FC Barcelona squad to face Getafe at the Spanish Cup on Wednesday. On the 10th of November, in the 19th minute, Messi injured himself and had to be substituted. Up to that point he had scored 14 goals and 16 official matches. On the day after, tests confirm that he had torn a hamstring muscle and would be out for 6 to 8 weeks. On the 20th of December, tests confirm the player had completed the clinical phase of his recovery and on the 2nd January he trains with the squad again.

On Thursday, the French sports paper announced its team of 2013, and there are two players from FC Barcelona in the eleven. They are the only FC Barcelona representatives in an XI dominated by Champions League winners Bayern Munich, with five players: Neuer, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Müller and Ribéry. The rest of the team is made up by Vincent Kompany (Manchester City), Thiago Silva (PSG), Touré (Manchester City) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid). Iniesta extends his contract with FC Barcelona until 2018

The FC Barcelona President, Sandro Rosell, has confirmed that the midfielder, who was on contract until 2015, will now be staying at the Catalan club until June 30, 2018. In 479 official appearances, Iniesta has won 21 trophies at FC Barcelona. Iniesta will be 34 on June 30, 2018, which will mean he will have been at the club for an incredible 22 years.
