The Catalan government confirmed on Friday five new deaths for heat strokes, thus bringing the total number of cases to eleven in the past weeks.
The new victims are two men and three women, aged between 52 and 81 years old. Four died in Barcelona and one perished in Figueras, in the north of Catalonia.
The Catalan government does not rule out new heat stroke deaths despite the worst of the heat wave that hit the country is already over.
Between August 2 and 8, emergency services received 453 calls related to the heatwave.
In some parts of Catalonia, maximum temperatures reached up to 40°C, with minimum temperatures as high as 30°C.
