Heatwave warning ends in Barcelona
Maximum temperatures reached up to 40°C in five days alert was in place
Barcelona city council has deactivated the heatwave warning, which has lasted for five days in the city. It remains in place elsewhere in Catalonia.
In some parts of the capital, maximum temperatures reached up to 40°C, with minimum temperatures as high as 30°C.
The Barcelona Center for Social Emergencies (CUESB) deployed a team of people to the most-affected areas in Barcelona in order to distribute water and offer advice to the public on how to prevent the risks that come with the searing heat. In total, the group has attended 148 people.
According to the council, during the alert phase of the heatwave, there has been no significant incident and it wasn’t necessary to request aid from the Emergency Medical System or local Guardia Urbana police. A homeless man in the city, however, did die of heat stroke last Friday.
