Plaça Catalunya to welcome Barcelona's finest chefs for open-air food festival
'Tast a La Rambla' gastronomy fair returns June 8-11 for its ninth edition with new location
Some of the finest gastronomic establishments in Barcelona will gather in the city’s Plaça Catalunya from June 8 to 11 for the ninth edition of ‘Tast a La Rambla’, a food festival featuring everything from show cooking and wine tasting to live concerts.
The festival traditionally takes place on La Rambla boulevard, hence its name, but construction work forced the fair to relocate nearby, to the Plaça Catalunya square.
Some of the dishes featured by the restaurants taking part in the fair include Família Nuri’s Pork and mushroom rice with kimchi and lime mayonnaise, or the Carretillera tiger milk with fried squid by Ceviche 103.
The list of restaurants joining the fair includes Casa Xica, Restaurant Telefèric, Andrea De Benedictis’ Cecconi’s at the Soho House hotel, Tapas 24, Bodega Amposta, and Dos Pebrots by Albert Raurich, a former head chef at El Bulli.
The fair will also welcome local pastry shops, like L’Atelier, Espaisucre, Pastisseria Escribà, Oriol Balaguer, Pastisseria Mervier Canal, and Albert Roca’s Sant Croi.
For example, Roca’s proposed dessert is a Voll Damm beer ice cream, sauteed peach, hazelnut, salted caramel, and white tea foam.
The goal of the festival is to encourage people to get to the city center to enjoy the best gastronomy Barcelona has to offer, according to organizers.
Tapas cost up to 5 euros, but there will also be activities for free.
