FC Barcelona experienced an increase of 24% in the number of visitors to its museum, and of 59% increase in turnover with respect to 2010. Las year a total of 1,626,990 people visited the Camp Nou Experience, the combined name for the Stadium Tour, the Museum and the multimedia space. The Barça Museum is the third most visited museum in all of Spain.

The total amount of sales of the Catalan wine fell by 2.14% last year, due to poor results in the domestic market. The record of 152 million cava bottles sold abroad does not compensate for the fall at home.

Carnival celebrations in small towns around Girona remain a huge social event and a great occasion for having fun with friends. Samuel Aranda’s photograph of a fully-veiled woman holding a wounded relative in her arms in Yemen has been awarded the World Press Photo of the Year. Aranda was working in the Arabian country for the ‘New York Times’. During his career he has collaborated with several Catalan and Spanish newspapers.

Barcelona City Council will apply a tax in order to exercise the profession, aiming for more professionalism. The reform also wants to regulate an activity that on some occasions blocks the circulation of pedestrians in the middle parts of Les Rambles.

The Catalan town of Figueres will host the first edition of the International Circus Festival from March 1st to 4th. Three special trains have been arranged to bring viewers from París and Milan. The International Circus Festival includes 52 artists from 13 different countries. It will take place in Sant Ferran Castle.

Barcelona’s independent fashion fair kicks off this week, running from Wednesday 25th to Saturday 28th. The fall-winter 2012/2013 collections of prestigious brands and designers such as Desigual, Pierre Cardin or Mango will be presented in the centre of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter in the Plaça del Rei (King’s Square) and the Saló del Tinell, inside the former King’s Palace.

The night of January 5th is the most important and magical nights of the year for thousands of children in Catalonia. It is when the Three Wise Men –or the Three Kings in Catalan– bring presents. Traditionally in Catalonia, presents are not delivered by Santa Claus on the evening of December 24th, but instead on the evening of January 5th by the Three Kings who arrive in all Catalan towns. Parades are organised to welcome them. Afterwards, when the children are sleeping, they enter through the window or balcony and leave presents for every family member.
