The number of international tourists visiting Catalonia grew by 10% in the first quarter of 2012
The number of international tourists who have visited Catalonia over the first three months of 2012 reached 2,162,337 people. This figure is a 9.9% increase over last year and represents 23.5% of the total number of foreigners visiting Spain.
Madrid (ACN) – Catalonia has played host to 2,162,337 foreign tourists during the first three months of 2012. This figure signifies an increase of 9.9% compared to last year’s same period, according to the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. Catalonia accounts for 23.5% of all foreign tourists visiting Spain mainly due to the increase in the arrival of British and German tourists. In March, 861,325 tourists visited destinations in Catalonia, which represents a 12.5% increase in relation to last year’s same month.
The Spanish Ministry of Tourism reported that 9.2 million people visited Spain between January and March 2012. March was the peak month with more than 3.6 million tourists. These figures represent an increase of 2.6% over last year.
