The Catalan Government has confirmed that Ryanair will route its flights through Reus Airport, next to Tarragona and the Costa Daurada, during the winter season. It will link the Catalan airport with 7 European destinations, with a frequency of 21 rotations per week. It is expected that 100,000 passengers will be transported. Tarragona (ACN).- The Catalan Government confirmed on Wednesday that Ryanair will operate through Reus Airport during the winter season once again. Last year, the Irish low-cost cancelled all its winter flights from and to Reus Airport, which is located next to Tarragona and the Costa Daurada, keeping only the connections during the summer season. However, next winter, Ryanair will link this Catalan Airport with 7 European destinations, with a frequency of 21 rotations per week, between the months of November and March. Forecasts expect that 100,000 passengers will be transported by the Irish company through this secondary airport during the cold season. Ryanair will link Reus with Santiago de Compostela (in Galicia), Brussels, Frankfurt-Hahn, Eindhoven, London, the East Midlands, and Bristol. During the summertime, Reus Airport was offering 32 destinations, many of them to the United Kingdom and Ireland. However this last summer season, Ryanair had reduced their destinations by half compared to 2011. Despite this fact, the company flights through Reus reached a 90% occupancy rate.

The Catalan Government’s Director for Transport and Mobility, Ricard Font, celebrated the fact that the airport will be active during the winter. “We have guaranteed that the airport will continue to be open this winter, as opposed to the previous one, when it had a null or almost null operability”, said Font. The Catalan Government believes that the Irish low-cost airline will transport between 18,000 and 20,000 passengers per month through Reus.
