The international fireworks competition in the first town in Costa Brava, Blanes, got underway on Tuesday night with thousands of spectators and spectacular pyrotechnics.

Hugo Salgado, a member of the Josman company from the Spanish town of Ourense, was among the first to compete in an event that will last until Saturday.

The company had added "a surprise firework," which included some day-pyrotechnics lit at night, causing a large visual explosion.

During the competition international companies will participate in the event such as the Italian company Poleggi on Thursday or the French company Ciels en Fête, which will close the competition on Saturday.

The pyrotechny from Valencia, the winners of the past three editions, will compete on Friday.

The city, after last year's test, will increase the number of shuttle buses available from Tuesday to Saturday. As well as the night shuttle buses for Friday and Saturday night from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.

This will help to reduce the amount of vehicles in Blanes, as the city council expects 140,000 people to attend the event.
