After the success of the Hypatia I project, in which a group of nine Catalan scientists traveled to the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah, United States, to study life on Mars, the Hypatia Mars Association is looking for new women to become astronauts and take part in the second mission, scheduled for 2025.

Hypatia has opened a call for applications until January 31, 2024, to select five new members for the Hypatia II crew. This new team of women, representing different ages and disciplines, will participate in a simulation mission scheduled for 2025.

The call is open to women who are passionate about science and space and who share the values of the Association. Candidates should have a connection to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) fields, effective communication skills, and proficiency in English.

In addition, they must submit a research and/or outreach project related to space exploration, particularly as it relates to the planet Mars.

The new crew will include the two reserve members from Hypatia I, mathematician Anna Bach and engineering student and elite athlete Helena Arias. They will join other professionals to conduct research, engage in outreach activities and promote science careers, particularly among young girls and women.
