AEInnova, focused on reducing environmental impact, named Best Startup at Barcelona Deep Tech Summit
More than 2,500 attend record breaking summit as part of Smart City Expo
AEInnova has been named Best Startup at a record-breaking third edition of the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit.
More than 2,500 people, almost twice as many as in the previous edition, attended the event this year, which forms part of the Smart City Expo, held in Barcelona's Fira Gran Via.
This year featured talks from more than 70 experts and projects exhibited from 47 start-ups, who are looking to provide disruptive solutions to the main challenges of today's society.
The companies focus mainly on fields such as biomedicine, quantum, new materials, energy transition, sustainable construction, data capture, and robotics, among others.
The start-up AEInnova was awarded Best Start-up at Deep Tech 2024 for its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of industries with high energy demand.
AEInnova, based in Terrassa, aims to transform industries into more digital and sustainable sectors with the least possible environmental impact.
The company is considered a key EU innovator in autonomous IoT sensors.
Barcelona Deep Tech Summit
Jordi Valls, a Barcelona city councilor, evaluated the latest edition of the summit positively: "It is a matter of pride for the city to have an event on the scale of the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, which promotes the creation of a high added value economy with a clear impact on people's well-being," he said.
Valls underlined the importance of strengthening public-private collaboration, as well as to weave a wide network of Knowledge Transfer Offices that allow speeding up the arrival of deep tech technology solutions in society.
Barcelona Deep Tech Summit is organized by the Barcelona City Council through Barcelona Activa, together with five Catalan universities.
Growing sector
According to the latest analysis of the Deep Tech Startup Ecosystem presented by Catalonia Trade & Investment, there are now 340 deep tech startups in Catalonia, 6% more than a year ago.
The companies employ 2,735 people, 17% more than in 2022, and generate €166 million in revenue, an increase of 3%.
The analysis highlights that Barcelona is a European hub for funding for deep tech start-ups, with €544 million in the period 2019-2024.
According to a he report presented by Mobile World Capital Barcelona, Spain now has 1,210 deep tech companies across the country with a global turnover of €2 billion, and provides 12,200 qualified jobs.
A of these companies, 55%, are in Catalonia and Madrid.
