In day 38 of Catalan trial, people at polling places for 2017 independence vote report "very violent conduct" from officers

The figure is 3.4 points higher than it was at the same hour, 14.00 (CET), on the day of the 2011 General Elections. The Catalan region with the highest rate of participation so far is Barcelona, with 57.6%, followed by the Girona region with 54.9%, Tarragona with 54.6% and Lleida with 52%. In the whole of Spain, 58.3 % of the electorate have already cast their vote, a figure which is slightly higher than in 2011 (57.6%). Journalists from nearly 600 media outlets are accredited and will be following Election Day in the main parties’ headquarters.

On Tuesday the Spokesperson for the Catalan Government and Minister for the Presidency, Francesc Homs, emphasised that "there is no deadline" to decide whether the self-determination consultation vote will take place, which is scheduled for the 9^th of November but which has been temporarily suspended by the Constitutional Court. The previous day, Homs had stated that between the 13^th and 15^th of October a decision should be made regarding some of the preparations for the vote, since they cannot be put in place just before opening the polling stations, a statement which was widely interpreted as a deadline. This statement caused an upset reaction by the government's ally, the left-wing independence party ERC. Moreover, the Catalan Government has appointed the members of the 7 territorial electoral bodies that will supervise November's vote and has started to receive registration petitions from foreign-national voters.
