Catalan cinema is currently facing a new problem: Small picture houses may have to close due to the difficulties to re-equip their auditoriums with digital technology. On weekdays, lots of auditoriums are practically empty and ticket sales continue to fall. The process of digitalisation is so expensive that the Catalan Cinema Committee fears that one out of four cinemas in Catalonia could close.
The Great Escape Music Festival, in the UK, known for its commitment to up-and-coming groups, continues to support bands from Catalonia and other Catalan speaking areas. The latest edition of the festival brought together groups that have already performed over the past three festivals such as Mishima or Manel. This year the organisers also decided to include an exclusive space in the programme for bands from the Balearic Islands.
'Come & See', or the International Stage Arts Market, is a showcase of Catalan theatre and dance for professionals of the international theatre scene. Some of the most internationally recognised Catalan performers participate.
