Barcelona (FCB).- The Spanish League title came a step closer to the Camp Nou on Sunday evening with Barça’s comfortable 0-3 win over Zaragoza, which leaves them 13 points ahead of Real Madrid with just 21 points left to play for. Thiago and Tello were on target for FC Barcelona, who were two up at the break and three up before the hour mark, as they brushed aside Zaragoza despite missing Messi, Iniesta, Sergio, Pedro and Piqué.
Thiago opens the scoring
Although Barça were in command of possession from the off, with Zaragoza pinned back in their own half, they weren’t able to convert that control into chances until on 11 minutes, Alexis and Thiago combined for the young Spanish international to fire home with the team’s first shot on goal.
0-2 before the break
As the half drew on, Barça began to play more comfortably, with Thiago taking charge in the centre and Alexis and Tello a constant threat from the flanks. On 39 minutes, the three combined and it was Tello who finished off the move for the second. Only a good save by Roberto from an Alexis effort stopped it from being three before the break, but FC Barcelona went in at half time with the game virtually decided.
Brilliant Tello
Manolo Jiménez made two changes for the second half, but Alexis’ shot against the woodwork was a sign of how the game was likely to pan out and it was no surprise when the third came on 52 minutes. Thiago won the ball in midfield and fed Tello who left his man for dead and coolly fired past Roberto for his second of the night.
Tito Vilanova sent on Abidal on 78 minutes and the Frenchman received a standing ovation from the Zaragoza crowd. By then Barça had taken the sting out of the game and were never under any threat - Thiago and Tello’s goals had already brought the league title a step closer to home!
