Sergio Busquets to leave FC Barcelona at end of season
Midfielder to leave Barça on the verge of winning his 9th La Liga title in 18 seasons
FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets will leave the team at the end of the season, as was announced on Wednesday.
The player shared a video on his social media accounts in which he said: "I am proud to have been able to wear this badge, but everything must come to an end."
Busquets admits that it was not an easy decision to make after 18 seasons and more than 700 matches with Barça.
The midfielder started playing for the club in 2005, making his debut with the first team in 2008. He has also been the team captain for the last two seasons.
The club said it considered him a “key member of the team” with a “style of play recognized around the world,” in a statement released after the player’s announcement.
Over 30 trophies with FCB
Busquets is one of the players who has won the most trophies with Barça, with eight league titles, seven Copas del Rey, seven Spanish Super Cups, three Champions Leagues, three European Super Cups, and three Club World Cups.
With the blaugrana sitting top of the league table, Busquets is also on the verge of winning his 9th La Liga crown.
The midfielder is the third in the list of most matches played for Barcelona, just behind Leo Messi and Xavi, the team's current coach.
