Piqué not to play European Super Cup
Barça player Gerard Piqué got injured in training and will be out for three weeks. Piqué tore fibres in his left calf muscle and will not play the European Super Cup match in Monaco against Porto next Friday evening.
Barcelona (FCB).- In Tuesday evening's training session, Gerard Piqué tore fibres in his left calf muscle, and FC Barcelona’s Medical Services have said that he will be sidelined for the next three weeks. That means that the Catalan centre back misses Friday's European Super Cup game in Monaco against Porto. However, Barça’s manager, Pep Guardiola, still has Fontàs, Abidal, Mascherano and Busquets who can play in that position, as well as the option of drafting in players from Barça B.
Piqué played 120 minutes of the two legged encounter with Real Madrid for the Spanish Super Cup, which Barça won. He also appeared for 45 minutes against Napoli on Monday at the Joan Gamper’s Trophy.
