The 72nd edition of the Barcelona Open 2025, the Trofeo Conde de Godó, is being played at the Reial Club de Tennis Barcelona from April 12 to April 20.

The prestigious tennis tournament is taking place at the oldest tennis club in Spain, founded in 1899. Played on clay, the tournament welcomes 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, as part of the ATP500 series.

With a legacy dating back to 1953, the Barcelona Open is not only a cornerstone of the clay court season but also one of Spain’s most historic tennis events.

Some of the top players attending this year's edition are Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and of course Spanish star and multiple grand slam winner Carlos Alcaraz.

More than a tournament: A symbol of Catalan heritage

Beyond the matches and titles, the Barcelona Open holds deep cultural value for the city and the region. As Catalonia’s premier tennis event, it reflects a blend of tradition, international prestige, and local pride.

"Barcelona is known for its tennis players because they play very well on clay. It's a nice event in Easter to visit, watch tennis and have fun,'' said Alejandro Riera, from the fan shop Match Ball.

For Martin Lussich, Stringer Manager at Head, Barcelona's tournament is "the most important tournament in Spain" due to its historic legacy. "Barcelona always had the best Spanish players and this tournament holds so much history. All the top players from the 70s came here to play the clay court," he stated.

"I think every year has been tough. I believe the Godó is one of the most difficult ATP 500s because it includes many great players. There are always 4 or 5 top-10 players in the tournament, which is amazing, it means we get to enjoy incredible tennis. This year, most of the favourites are in the quarterfinals, and that’s very positive for the tournament and the fans," said Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz during the post-match press conference.

The player, who is currently number three on the world's ranking list, won yesterday's round of sixteen and is one of the favorites to win the finals that are going to be played on Sunday.

Both national and international fans fill up the stands of the Rafa Nadal Court each year not only to support their favorite players but also to enjoy themselves, an aspect of the event that can be easily felt in the atmosphere.

The finals are set for Sunday, April 20, where the singles winner will lift the iconic trophy crafted from sterling silver and American oak, weighing in at 13 kilos.
