Girona to maintain heightened security measures for Liverpool Champions League clash
Safety protocols will oversee gathering points for visiting fans in city centre
Girona city council will maintain its usual security measures for Champions League matchdays this week when the north Catalan team welcomes Liverpool to Montilivi on Tuesday.
Authorities will monitor fan gathering points, particularly in the city centre
Security and operational measures will follow the protocols used for previous games against Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava, including enhanced cleaning services.
As happened during the Slovan Bratislava match, part of the visiting Liverpool fans are expected to stay overnight in Girona, while others will arrive on the day of the match.
According to Girona City Council, Liverpool FC has organized transportation for their fans, using buses to transfer supporters from the city to the stadium. Many fans are expected to arrive by bus, while others will use their own means of transport.
On match day, a coordinated security effort between Girona's local police and Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra officers will be deployed around Montilivi Stadium.
Additional police presence is planned at high-traffic areas for visiting supporters throughout the day, traffic around the stadium will be restricted as usual.
The local government advises fans to travel to the stadium on foot, by bicycle, or by bus.
Extra cleaning measures
The city council will increase cleaning efforts at key gathering points for visiting fans, including the Old Town and areas near Montilivi Stadium.
Temporary bins and portable toilets will be installed, and some statues will be protected.
Local bars and restaurants will be advised to serve drinks in plastic or paper cups and to remove unnecessary outdoor furniture.
