FC Barcelona Assistant Manager Jordi Roura: "The team that overcomes difficulties wins the league"

The Barça Manager still insists that it is the Spanish League that matters most and that Levante won’t be an easy opponent. “Levante are on a bad run, but that sometimes works against you because they have nothing to lose” said Barça’s Assistant Manager Jordi Roura. In addition, he explained that Messi “has started training with the squad and he has dealt with his recovery period well and done everything he can to get fit again”.

Barcelona (FCB).- Jordi Roura spoke to the press today about how nothing is decided yet in the league, and there are still some big games to come, including the one this Saturday against Levante. He said that “we will be trying to win the league as quickly as possible, but every game is a different story. Levante are on a bad run, but that sometimes works against you because they have nothing to lose and that makes things especially difficult”.

Neither does Roura wants anyone to start celebrating yet. “They were already saying we’d won the league two or three months ago. But the team has maintained the same intensity and concentration required to win. We still need nine points before we can say we are champions and we all know that this is the most important tournament”. But the team are on fantastic form at the moment. “It’s the team that overcomes the most difficulties, injuries for example, that wins the league” he reckons.

Messi getting fitter

“Messi is fine. He has started training with the squad and he has dealt with his recovery period well and done everything he can to get fit again”, announced Jordi Roura, although he added that he and Tito Vilanova will not know whether the Argentinian will be fit to play until Saturday morning.

Other names were mentioned. One of the big mysteries is whether Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano will be ready for the Champions League semi finals. The response was as follows: “Puyol won’t be playing in Munich and we still don’t know whether he’ll be ready for the second leg, it depends how things develop and what the doctors decide… Mascherano is developing very well, but we still can’t say whether he’ll be with us for the return leg either”.

Abidal keen

Finally, Roura spoke about how excited Éric Abidal is about being able to play again. “We have to take things a step at a time. It’s only natural for him to want to play, like any of his team-mates.
