Eric Abidal discharged from hospital

FC Barcelona player Eric Abidal was today discharged from hospital, although according to a medical bulletin he will still need to return for regular checkups. Abidal had a liver transplant on April 10th. In March 2011, the French defender was diagnosed a liver tumour and he went through a first surgery.

Barcelona (FCB).- Barça’s French defender was discharged form hospital this Monday after his liver transplant on April 10th, which took place in the Catalan capital. FC Barcelona’s medical services released a bulletin explaining: “given the particulars of his recovery process, Abidal will have to undergo a number of hospital checkups”. This afternoon, through his official Facebook account, Abidal thanked on his name and on behalf of his cousin, all the support they have received.


On March 15th, it was announced that Eric Abidal would need a liver transplant. A year ago, on March 15th 2011, he was diagnosed a liver tumour, which was removed on March 17th in Barcelona. Despite this initial surgery, the transplant remained a possibility, depending on the patient’s evolution.

This season, Barça’s defender played in 38 games: 22 matches corresponding to the Spanish League, 6 to the Champions League, 5 to the Spanish Cup, 2 to the Spanish Super Cup, 2 to the Club’s World Cup and 1 to the European Super Cup.
