Domestic double for Barça Femení after comfortable cup final win
Catalans beat Real Sociedad 8-0 in Copa de la Reina final in Zaragoza
Barça Femení's dominance of domestic football goes on.
Another comfortable cup final victory, this time at a score of 8-0 over Basque side Real Sociedad, means that the Catalans have now picked up another domestic double, after being crowned league champions earlier this month.
Goals from Ona Batlle (2), Salma Paralluelo, Caroline Graham Hansen (2), Mariona Caldentey (2), and Clàudia Pina saw Barça pick up their tenth Copa de la Reina at the La Romerada stadium in Zaragoza.
The tenth cup crown is a record haul in the competition, to be added to their record 9th league title. This season also saw Barça pick up a record 5th consecutive title, the most ever won in a row by any side.
The win will ensure that Jonatan Giráldez's team head into next week's Champions League final in excellent form.
The Catalans take on the imperious French side Olympique Lyonnais in the Women's Champions League Final to be played in Bilbao next Saturday, May 25, at 6 pm.
Barça have never beaten Lyon in the women's Champions League, and have lost two finals to the French side, in 2022 and in 2019, while Barça also fell in the 2017/18 quarter-finals to the same outfit.
With eight Champions League titles to their name, Lyon are the standard-bearers in European women's football, and next week's matchup will surely provide a scintillating clash of titans.
