Catalan motorcycle rider dies at Isle of Man TT races
46-year-old Raül Torras passes away following incident in one of most dangerous sporting events in the world
Raül Torras, the 46-year-old Catalan motorcycle rider, has died following an incident in the Isle of Man TT races, known to be one of the most dangerous sporting events in the world.
The experienced rider was originally from Sant Hilari Sacalm, in the county of la Selva, north of Barcelona. The incident occurred on the final lap of the Supertwin Race.
Since the event's inauguration in 1907, it has seen over 260 fatalities, with five in the past year.
An official statement lamenting the passing of Torras said that he was an "experienced" competitor who made his debut on the track in 2017 and earned his best finish at last year's event, coming 15th in the Supertwin Race.
Raül's fastest ever lap of the TT Mountain Course was recorded earlier in the day of his passing in the Superstock Race, with an average speed of 125.47m/h, – just over 200 km/h – securing a 20th-place finish. In total, Torras competed in 21 TT races and his performances earned him a total of 18 Bronze Replicas.
The organization expressed their "deepest sympathy" to the family, friends, and loved ones of the rider.
