Barça gets its thirteenth win on the road
The team chalked up their 13th away win of the league season at Villarreal on Saturday –equalling the the 2008/2009 and 2009/10 seasons and with four games left to play on the road, they are closing on a new record.
Barcelona (FCB).- The win at the Madrigal was in large part thanks to three great stops from Victor Valdés, two in the first quarter of an hour from Rossi and another from Cazorla towards the end of the 90 minutes. The win also meant Barça are now 8 points clear at the top - a lead that owes a lot to that fantastic away record.
Just 4 points dropped
Of the 15 away games played in La Liga so far this season, Barça have failed to win on just two occasions: the draw in Gijon, which came after a taxing international break and the draw in Seville a couple of weeks ago when the team really deserved more.
Three campaigns on the run
Saturday’s win meant that Barça equalled the 13 win running streak set by Atletico Madrid in 1995/96 and equalled last season by Pellegrini’s Real Madrid and by Barça last season and the season before.
Four wins to beat the record
No team has ever won 14 away games in a La Liga campaign, but Barça have the chance to do just that in their next four away games at Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Llevant and Màlaga before the end of the season.
Messi: 15 games, 15 goals
Messi is the team’s overall leading scorer and has also got most on the road -15 goals in 15 games, including two goals against Zaragoza, Osasuna and Hercules, as well as a hat trick in Almeria.
