Barça cruise to victory over Real Madrid to win Super Cup
Blaugrana's 3-1 defeat of clásico rivals brings first silverware of Xavi era
FC Barcelona stormed to victory in the Super Cup on Sunday night, beating rivals Real Madrid 3-1 to win their first silverware since club legend Xavi took over as manager.
Gavi opened the scoring at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after 33 minutes, before setting up Lewandowski to double Barça's advantage on the stroke of half time.
The Catalans' victory over the defending champions was all but assured in the 69th minute, the 18-year-old Gavi again getting an assist, with Pedri finishing from close range to make it 3-0.
Real Madrid's Benzema managed to grab a consolation goal in injury time, but it was not enough to dampen the celebration of culers as Barcelona secured their first trophy since winning the Copa del Rey in April 2021.
