Agreement reached to call off women's football league strike
Minimum salaries will be increased over the next three years as part of deal
After the first round of fixtures were called off in Spain's professional women's football league over a labor dispute, the league and the players' unions have reached a deal that will see the players return to action this weekend.
Players had gone on strike for the first match day of the new season last weekend, and another strike was planned for the second match day, but that will now instead be played.
The players wanted to achieve a higher minimum salary as part of their labor agreement, up from the €16,000 and a working week of 75%, meaning the minimum that clubs were able to pay players just €12,000.
Now, for the 2023/24 season, the minimum will be €21,000, with the possibility of that increasing to €23,000 if the league obtains certain commercial agreements.
In 2024/25, the minimum salary will be raised to €22,500, with the possibility of increasing to €25,000. The year after, it will be €23,500, with the possibility of it increasing to €28,000.
