Vall d'Hebron Hospital sets up rocket with VR spacewalk on mental health day
Virtual reality experience designed to reduce anxiety and foster positive emotions
In celebration of World Mental Health Day, Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona has set up a mock rocket outside the building, offering a virtual reality spacewalk experience.
The VR activity invites patients, family members, and passersby to step into the shoes of astronauts and embark on a spacewalk. Experts believe that immersive experiences like this can foster positive emotions and help alleviate anxiety and fear—two prevalent feelings among those in the healthcare environment.
“Our approach to patient care is not only rooted in excellent medical practices but also in activities like this, which emphasize a personal touch,” said Mari Ángeles Aceituno, deputy nursing director at Vall d'Hebron, in a statement.
Coinciding with World Mental Health Day, the Catalan government also announced that they will approve the national mental health pact before the end of the year.
The president committed to developing this plan "in all areas" throughout his term in office. He emphasized the importance of providing the healthcare system with "appropriate resources, qualified professionals, and relevant research" to combat mental health issues.
