Urban and intercity buses to guarantee 40% peak hour services during strike that starts Monday
Strike in good sector called off with agreement on bringing forward retirement age
On Monday, October 28, urban and intercity bus drivers will go on strike, demanding that the retirement age be brought forward to 60.
The strike will also be repeated on November 11, 28 and 29, Dcember 5 and 9, and from December 23 indefinitely.
The Department of Business and Labor has set minimum services for urban and intercity buses at 40% during rush hour and 20% for the rest of the day.
Rush hour services have been set for between 6.30 am and 9.30 am and between 4 pm and 8 pm.
In the case of school buses and those transporting people with disabilities, minimum services of 85% must be guaranteed.
On Thursday, a strike among freight carriers was called off after an agreement was reached with employers, but that of private and public passenger transport has been maintained.
After a meeting between union representatives and employers, the stoppage in the goods sector was called off after having reached an agreement to bring forward the retirement of the drivers.
In a statement, the CCOO trade union said that this call to strike "responds to the systematic stagnation of the employer to initiate the necessary procedures to include reducing coefficients for the early retirement of professional drivers in this sector, as has already been done in the health transport and goods transport sectors."
On Monday there will be demonstrations across Catalonia as part of the bus drivers' strike.
The first will be at 10 am in Barcelona at Plaça Ildefons Cerdà, when drivers will perform a slow drive to the Department of Work offices on Via Laietana.
There will be a demonstration in Tarragona at 1 pm in front of the Spanish government's delegation offices, in Girona also at 1 pm in front of the Spanish government's delegation offices, and in Lleida at 11.30 am from the bus station to the Spanish government's delegation offices.
