Two arrested in Barcelona airport with 186 cylinders of cocaine in their bodies
Police also detained two other people carrying 5.5 kg of cocaine wrapped around their legs
The Spanish national police have detained four people in Barcelona-El Prat airport, two carrying 186 cylinders of cocaine in their bodies and two more with 5.5 kilograms wrapped around their legs.
Police organized several controls in what they consider 'hot' flights due to the origin and found the first two suspects, as they were very nervous and had different stories for the flight. After a small interview, law enforcement agents considered they could be carrying drugs.
After police had searched their luggage, they requested an x-ray photo, where they found several strange objects that could be containers to carry drugs.
The two suspects were moved to the Hospital de Bellvitge, where police waited for the cylinders to be removed to discover it was pure cocaine.
Some days later, in another control, agents saw two suspected travelers carrying drugs in their belongings. After a first security check, they found several bags full of cocaine wrapped around their legs.
The modus operandi is known as 'drug mummies,' as they just hide the drugs with tape around the body.
Police arrested a man and a woman who carried 2.516 and 3.055 kilograms of cocaine, respectively.
