Two 14-year-old British tourists rescued from drowning in Costa Brava
Police diver saves teenager who was swept 200 meters out to sea by strong currents
Spanish police (Guardia Civil) and two off-duty firefighters rescued two 14-year-old British tourists who got into trouble in the water at Estartit beach on the Costa Brava on Monday evening.
Three teenagers from a group of 94 young people on holiday in the town were swept away by strong currents while swimming.
Two off-duty firefighters managed to rescue one of them and divers from the police's Special Underwater Activities Group (GEAS) found another 200 meters out to sea.
One of the divers swam out to him and was able to rescue him before he drowned.
The third teenager was able to get out of the water himself.
Once ashore, the children were attended to by emergency medical services. All three of them were unharmed and were offered thermal clothing to prevent hypothermia.
