Turtle born on Catalan beach
Hatchling taken to recovery centre to guarantee survival
A turtle has been born on a beach 30 kilometres north of Barcelona, in the town of Mataró.
The hatchling was taken to a recovery centre in order to guarantee its survival. It will be returned to the beach on Monday evening, when it is expected the other 130 eggs will begin to hatch.
Once born, the turtles make their way to the sea where they spend what are known as their “lost years.” These are the years they spend at sea maturing, before returning to land.
