Thirteen affected by PortAventura attraction accident file lawsuit against theme park
Fourteen people were injured after a tree fell on the Tomahawk attraction due to strong winds
Thirteen people affected by the accident in the Tomahawk attraction of the PortAventura theme park filed a joint lawsuit in a Tarragona court on Thursday.
Fourteen people were injured in the incident, two critically. Of the thirteen people who filed the lawsuit, one was seriously injured and is still in the hospital.
The complaint is for injuries, but could be extended to other crimes, depending on what the upcoming report by the Catalan police Mossos d'Esquadra reveals.
The complainants' lawyer, Sergi Ramos, stated that they will seek the "maximum" compensation allowed by law, although they have not yet quantified it, as it will depend on the consequences caused by the injuries.
Ramos also praised the "good attitude" of PortAventura's management, who made themselves available to the victims.
"Although they have not provided us with any protocol pending the police report, they have not shown any opposition to anything," he said.
The accident occurred on the morning of February 11, when strong winds caused a tree to fall onto the children's roller coaster.
According to one of the victims, the fallen tree hit the track of the attraction and then the train collided with it.
