Taxi tariffs in Barcelona to rise by 4.7% in 2025
Unions announce upcoming protests over rising cost of insurance premiums for drivers
Taxi fares in the Barcelona area are set to increase by an average of 4.7% in 2025, following approval expected on Tuesday by the regional transport authority (AMB).
The updated pricing will raise the base starting fare to €2.75. The tariff per kilometer will increase by 3.9% during the day and 3.8% at night.
However, the flat rate for trips between the port and the airport, or vice versa, will remain unchanged at €45.
Other supplementary charges, such as the €2.50 fee for trips to Sants Station or Fira de Barcelona and the €4.50 airport surcharge, will also remain the same.
The taxi sector has expressed satisfaction with the fare adjustments, though some organizations, including the influential union Élite Taxi, had advocated for a more substantial increase of 12%.
"We understand that citizens cannot bear the full burden of rising insurance costs, and we consider a 4.7% increase reasonable," said Élite Taxi spokesperson Tito Álvarez.
Álvarez also announced upcoming protests to highlight what he described as the "excessive rise" in insurance premiums for taxi drivers.
"I pay nearly €4,000 annually, much of which is due to accidents involving drivers from ride-hailing services or taxi drivers who do not operate properly," he stated.
"This battle will escalate to disruptions at the port, airport, and other infrastructure managed by Spain's transport ministry."
