The taxi sector has called for a go-slow protest in Barcelona on January 29.

The slow ride will leave the airport, surround Barcelona via the Ronda de Dalt and the Ronda Litoral in both directions, before returning to start point.

In a statement, Élite Taxi said drivers' demands include more controls over platforms such as Uber and an end to "abusive practices from insurance companies."

The association has called for a total stoppage between 10am and 2pm.

The call to protest does not imply that the taxi sector will strike during the major conferences in Barcelona this year, such as ISE or MWC, according to the taxi union.

"We want to make it clear that the yellow and black will be 200% at all the major events in the city. This change of strategy responds to the clear and firm support that Barcelona City Council has shown towards our sector," the organization said.
