Supreme Court reduces sentence of one involved in 2017 terror attack
Court consider Said Ben Iazza didn't know the intentions of the assailants of Barcelona and Cambrils attacks
The Supreme Court has reduced the prison sentence of one of the perpotrators convicted for the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils in August 2017.
Said Ben Iazza has had his sentenced reduced from 8 years in prison down to 18 months. Ben Iazza was convicted of having left a van and a driver's license for one of the terrorists who committed the attacks.
The court considered that Said Ben Iazza did not know the intentions of the others involved and, therefore, convicted him of serious imprudence in the crime of cooperation with a terrorist organization.
Meanwhile, the court rejected the appeals of the two main convicts, upholding the National Court's sentences of 43 years in prison for Mohammad Houli Chemlal and 36 years for Driss Oukabir.
Both were convicted of membership of a terrorist organization, manufacturing and possession of explosives, and reckless destruction and injury.
