Spain to reform immigration regulation to simplify procedures
Work and residency to be unified into one permit, with extra rights for long-term residents
The Spanish government will reform immigration regulations to simplify procedures for foreign nationals attaining residency and work permits.
The move will incorporate two European regulations approved under the Spanish presidency.
The first is that of the single permit, unifying work and residency into one permit, and the second is that of long-term residence, which improves the rights of these residents and their family members.
This reform is planned for the first semester of 2024.
"The migratory phenomenon requires a vision from the state, a shared commitment between regional administrations, and an exercise of interterritorial solidarity," said Spain's minister of inclusion, social security, and migration, Elma Saiz, upon announcing the measure this week.
The minister announced that the conferences with regions will be held biannually, with the next one taking place in March.
