Western Pyrenees record 30 cm of snow
Over 100mm of rainfall in Montseny, 11mm in Barcelona
A light storm in northern Catalonia brought snowfall to the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees early Saturday morning, with 30 centimeters registered in the Western Pyrenees.
The territory saw snow above 500 meters, such as on the Gavarres mountains in the North-East, but it was above 800 meters where registers show over 20 centimeters of snow, such as 31 centimeters on 2,500 meters, or 25 cm in the Vielha area.
Snowfall led the Catalan Traffic Agency (SCT) to require snow chains on six roads, including the C-28 at Port de la Bonaigua and the N-260 at Port del Cantó.
Drivers on the C-142b leading to Pla de Beret, the N-141 in Bossòst, and the BV-4024 at Coll de Pal were also required to use snow chains, among other roads.
In the Eastern Pyrenees and the pre-Pyrenees, snow was mainly present above 1,200 meters, with 15 centimeters at the Vall de Núria, 10 cm in Ulldeter, or 3 cm in Puigcerdà. Meanwhile, the municipalities of Setcases, Tregurà, and Molló registered between two and five centimeters of snow.
Meanwhile, in central Catalonia, the Montseny mountain area recorded heavy rainfall, with approximately 110mm in some locations in the counties of Vallès Oriental and La Selva.
Authorities registered 110.8mm of rainfall between Friday night and Saturday morning in Sant Esteve de Palautordera, south of Montseny. Santa Coloma de Farners, north of Montseny, saw 69.9mm and Granollers 69mm.
In Barcelona, rainfall varied by location. The Zona Universitària area recorded 10mm on Friday night and 5mm on Saturday morning, while the El Raval neighborhood saw 3mm on Friday night and 5mm on Saturday.
Catalan Civil Protection had activated the flooding pre-emergency protocol, which was lifted on Saturday morning "without any significant incidents."
Firefighters received 134 emergency calls related to 89 incidents, most of them in Vallès Oriental (48), Vallès Occidental (35), and Garraf (9).
The snow pre-emergency protocol remained in effect, with authorities urging caution for outdoor activities, particularly in mountain areas.
