Six Kentish plovers, a protected and threatened bird species, have been born on Tamarit beach in Tarragona.

These were the survivors of a total of five nests with three eggs each, which were counted on the beach since April.

The La Sínia Environmental Association and the Tarragona City Council, which have been working together since 2019 in the area, have declared it a successful season after the number of nests and chicks has doubled compared to previous years.

"Biodiversity in Tarragona is an area that needs attention and we need to keep working," the entity pointed out.

The environmental group also wants to promote the nesting of these birds in other parts of the coast, such as Llarga beach.
