Shuttle buses between Barcelona and Sant Vicenç de Calders due to R2 train disruptions
Alternative service to transport 35,000 passengers per week, according to Renfe
There are now, as of Monday morning, shuttle buses connecting the Catalan capital to the town of Sant Vicenç de Calders, near Tarragona, due to the R2 South Rodalies Renfe commuter train line disruptions.
From Monday to Friday during rush hour there will be buses every half an hour from Sant Vicenç de Calders from 6 am to 9 am, while in the evening they will be leaving Barcelona from 6 pm to 8:30 pm.
Shuttle buses stopping in Castelldefels, Gavà, and Barcelona, were already put in place last week by Renfe after a signal box fire at the Adif railway infrastructure management facilities in Gavà led to widespread delays and cancelations on the line.
There are buses from Castelldefels and Gavà to Barcelona every morning from 6.30 am to 8.30 am and in the evening from Barcelona to Castelldefels and Gavà from 5 pm to 7 pm.
According to Renfe, these buses have the capacity for 35,000 passengers per week.
Southern train lines
The R2 South line between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Estació de França operates with two services per direction per hour, with stops at all stations.
As for the regional trains - R13, R14, R15, R16, and R17 - they have one train per hour in each direction with a stop at all the stations between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Barcelona.
1 R2 incident every 3 days
Last week officials from Spain's transport ministry said the incident was "serious" and that normal service would not return to the R2 South line for "three or four weeks."
Last year there were 148 incidents on the line, almost 1 every 3 days, according to an eldiario.es report. These include issues that caused 100-minute delays in one more trains.
