Scot dies in fatal collision with tram after first night of Primavera Sound
Incident occurred near festival grounds after Pet Shop Boys concert
A 57-year-old Scottish man died after being hit by a tram on Wednesday evening on Barcelona's Diagonal avenue.
The incident occurred near Diagonal Mar shopping mall, very close to Parc del Fòrum, where the Primavera Sound music festival's inaugural night, featuring bands including Pet Shop Boys, had just ended shortly after 11pm.
According to a witness, the victim was checking his phone, attempted to cross the tram rails and did not react when the driver honked the horn.
The man was accompanied by another person who was not injured but needed psychological assistance after the events.
Local Guàrdia Urbana police, firefighters and two ambulances spent some time dealing with the accident, which obliged authorities to interrupt the tram service and the road traffic in the area.
The 57-year-old has become the ninth fatal victim of the year in Barcelona after a road accident.
Primavera Sound will continue for its three main nights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
