Russian pro-war Z symbol painted in various public spots in Barcelona
La Rambla, city cathedral, and Ukrainian volunteer center all defaced with letter
Various public locations in Barcelona have been defaced with the letter ‘Z,’ a symbol commonly used to show support for Russia’s invasion and occupation of Ukraine.
The symbol is painted on Russian tanks in Ukraine and has become a popular pro-war symbol in the country in general.
In the past few weeks, various locations in Barcelona city center have been graffitied with the symbol, including a Ukrainian volunteer center.

Apart from damage to buildings, this also raises concerns about safety of volunteers who work there.
Those who did it must be found and prosecuted.

The Barcelona cathedral and trees on La Rambla boulevard are other locations that have also been painted with ‘Z’ symbols. Trees at the seafront near Palau del Mar were also defaced with graffiti, but they have since been covered.
The Catalan Mossos d’Esquadra have opened an investigation into the matter.
