Rural agents' reports up 20% as surveillance of natural spaces increases
Force wants to ensure safety and control on outdoor activities
Rural agents have reported a total of 827 complaints during the first half of 2024 in Catalonia, a 20% increase compared to the same period last year.
That is why the force has intensified surveillance in natural spaces during the month of August in order to ensure the protection of these spaces.
According to the data given by the rural agents, from June 1 until July 31, 486 complaints were reported and 3,651 interventions were made.
The increase in security aims to ensure people's safety and see to it that tourism and leisure activities don’t harm the natural environment and nearby crops.
Drones have helped agents in their day-to-day tasks, as they can capture images of activity illegal in natural spaces more easily.
Jaume Bosch, head of the Rural Agents in central Catalonia, says everyone should enjoy nature "responsibly" and have the minimum impact on the environment.
Bosch has explicitly asked not to make any bonfires nor to use gas stoves, as well as to always carry dogs on a leash.
