Rubble from Ukrainian school on display in Barcelona shows how war affects children
'Piedra a piedra' exhibition at Estació de França station until June 21
Real rubble, chairs, blackboards and more from a Ukrainian school are now on display in Barcelona in an effort to raise awareness of the effects war has had on the education of the children who have remained in the country.
Organized by a non-profit called Global Humanitaria with support from the Ukrainian consulate, the 'Piedra a piedra' exhibition will be open to the public at the Catalan capital's Estació de França train station until June 21.
The items are from a school in Borodianka, a town of 13,000 around 50 km from Kyiv, that came under heavy Russian shelling on March 1, 2022. The strikes destroyed large residential buildings and caused serious damage to the school.
The exhibition recreates one of the school's conflict-ravaged classrooms, allowing visitors to see debris and original objects collected by a Global Humanitaria team on one of their visits to the country.
Actress Laia Fontàn, Ukrainian consul general Oleg Grabovetskyy, and Global Humanitaria president Andrés Torres unveiled the display that was previously in Valencia and Madrid in Barcelona on Tuesday.
