Robberies down 6.9% between January and September in Barcelona to 2023
Police register 4,477 fewer thefts, with crime rate down 4% compared to last year

Robberies in Barcelona fell by 6.9% between January and September compared to the same time last year, according to a report on crime by Spain's interior ministry.
There were 60,367 thefts in the first nine months of the year, 4,477 fewer than in 2023, when authorities reported 64,844 thefts.
Police recorded an 11.3% decrease in car thefts, from 3,451 to 2,173, and an 8.4% decrease in home robberies, from 3,830 to 3,580. According to the report, there was also an 8.2% decrease in thefts involving violence and intimidation (from 10,279 to 9,441).
Officials also reported that the crime rate decreased by 4%, with 119,643 crimes reported, while drug trafficking crimes increased from 1,320 to 1,410 between 2023 and 2024, an increase of 6.8%.
On the other hand, sexual freedom crimes increased by 3.2% (from 910 to 939), although two sexual assaults with penetration less were reported, from 333 crimes reported in 2023 to 331 in 2024.
Cybercrime
At the beginning of 2024, police confirmed the upward trend in cybercrimes, with 1.2% more crimes of this type than in the previous period.
In the first nine months of this year, law enforcement agencies registered 14,242 cybercrimes (up from 14,071). However, online fraud decreased from 13,712 to 13,609.
