Rain and storm warnings across Catalonia for Wednesday
Civil Protection activates flood plan due to heavy rain forecasts
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has issued a warning of high danger for rains for this Wednesday in a large part of the territory, but especially in the central regions, coastal areas, and some parts of northern Catalonia.
The heavy rains are forecast due to the influence of an isolated depression at high levels.
According to the Meteocat, it will be a day of heavy showers and storms, with rainfall exceeding 50mm in some areas.
Civil Protection authorities have activated the Inuncat flood plan and urge citizens to urge extreme caution and to "inform" themselves before leaving their house on Wednesday, and to take precautions for outdoor activities.
Storms are forecast for the coming days through the week. beginning on Tuesday in some parts of the territory, before it's expected to spread across Catalonia on Wednesday.
The Fire Department received 87 calls about the storm on Tuesday, with more than half (52) in the northern province of Girona, and mostly related to fallen trees or branches.
Wednesday's intense rain will start along the central coast and towards noon and in the afternoon it will likely reach Central Catalonia and inland parts of northeastern Catalonia.
On Thursday, the weather will remain unstable. Wind from the north will enter at both ends and showers will be repeated around central Catalonia.
